This field of study has two components. First, it emphasizes the process of constructing and analyzing mathematical and statistical models of real-world managerial problems and the understanding of the role and uses of such models in the management of complex organizations. Second, the concentration provides an understanding of the principles of manual, mechanical, and electronic information processing, including computer programming concepts, methods and languages; the capabilities, limitations, and selection procedures of information processing equipment, implementation, and evaluation; and the roles of both management and systems personnel in information technology. The concentration emphasizes research on information systems technology as an integral part of effective management systems.
